SAME's 2001 Annual Conference

Crystal River, FL
The 2001 SAME meeting was hosted by the Alabama Cooperative Extension
System. Members met in Crystal River, Florida. Crystal
River, on Florida's Gulf Coast, is home to about 500 manatees
in the winter. Participants had the opportunity to talk
to manatee researchers, see the manatee program at Homosassa Springs
Wildlife Park, snorkel with manatees in Crystal River, and do
a drift dive in 1,000-foot visibility down Rainbow River.
Sonya Wood, a SAME member and an experienced manatee dive trip
leader was our guide.
